Optically Isolated Gate Driver
Description
The CPC1590 is a MOSFET Gate Driver that requires no external power supply: it regulates the input voltage drawn from the load (up to 200V), down to 12.2V for internal use. It is specifically designed for low duty cycle switching applications that drive up to 4nF of gate capacitance.
The CPC1590 accomplishes very fast MOSFET turn-on by supplying stored charge, from an external capacitor, to the MOSFET gate when input control current is applied to the device’s LED. After the MOSFET is turned on, photocurrent from the input optocoupler keeps it on for as long as sufficient input control current flows, so there is no low-frequency operating limit.
